A rough ride!

This book to me seems incomplete.Here s one example.Many fundamental concepts Greenberg propose are part of concepts from Freud, M.Klein,Kohut(although arshly criticized by Greenbersg) and many others.These are similar ideas reformulated in a different dialectic.I also found lot of points contextually difficult to sustain in regard to what we know today.In addition more live examples are desperately needed to break the dragging and the confusion.
It starts to get better around the 4th chapter.The book becomes more vivid with the two last chapters, one on neutrality and the other on transference.Those two make up for the rest of the book but the book is almost finished.
In my opinion to make things happen Greenberg should have focused essentially on deep psychology from his own experience and from his own theoretical perspective rather than trying to redefine and compare in most of the book such and such concept from everyone from a to z and in a often pretty assertive manner.
On a different note the book has some good descriptive and analytical moments.Over all I can really appreciate what Greensberg is trying to do but as it stands, in my view goals were not met.This book is definitely not a priority in Greensberg's work.Try "Object relations in psychoanalytic theory" Greensberg co-wrote with S.Mitchell,thats an "incontournable"
