Edmund Morris was born and educated in Kenya and went to college in South Africa. He worked as an advertising copywriter in London before immigrating to the United States in 1968. His biography The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt won the Pulitzer Prize and American Book Award in 1980. After spending several years as President Reagan's authorized biographer, he published the national bestseller Dutch: A Memoir of Ronald Reagan in 1999. He has written extensively on travel and the arts for such publications as "The New Yorker, The New York Times," and "Harper's Magazine," Edmund Morris lives in New York and Washington with his wife and fellow biographer, Sylvia Jukes Morris.

Essential book for budding farmer! A definite inspiration. Prices have changed but not the work ethic required to succeed. I've read this twice from library, figured I'd better buy it since I'm reading it again.

Great idea but missed the mark - for me!

Frankly, I was disappointed. I loved this character and was excited when I saw the book. But it was not quite what I expected - yes, it was stories from the title character's extensive diaries documenting her life, but I simply did not like the stories told nor the way they were written. While I realize there is not yet a lot of history to draw on for this character, I did not feel her "voice" was captured well at all. The first story was a rather pointless retelling of the Arabian Nights. The rest did not improve much. This was a wasted opportunity. In her several appearances on Dr Who, she had a lot of say about her unwanted immortality and how she wrote everything down to be able to remember everything later. None of the poignant and even bitter and angry qualities of her "musings" came through here. Nice try but I hope someone else picks it up. Great cover art!

Having said all this, I do realize someone else might simply adore this book and respond angrily to my post. This is why I don't review books all that often because what one person likes another is bound to toss aside after one chapter - so take it with a grain of salt and see how YOU like it, which is what is important. Amazon sent me an email asking for reviews on a number of items, including this book, so I just went down the list.

During the early 1890s, Niven’s explorations were sponsored by the American Museum of Natural History. Later, he continued to explore on his own. His photographs, letters, diaries, and newspaper accounts are now the only source of information on many sites that were later destroyed by grave robbers, neglect, and the turmoil of the Mexican Revolution in 1911.His later discovery of twenty-six hundred inscribed stone tablets in the Valley of Mexico aroused considerable controversy, and inspired James Churchward to put forth an occult interpretation of the origins of the Native Americans in The Lost Continent of Mu (1926). They remain controversial to this day. The writer Katherine Anne Porter frequented Niven’s excavations in the Valley of Mexico and based her first published short story, "Mar�a Concepci�n," on her experiences there. She would write that the "Old Man never carried a gun, never locked up his money, sat on political dynamite and human volcanoes and never bothered to answer his slanderers. He bore a charmed life. Nothing would ever happen to him." Niven was planning a book about his experiences, but was unable to complete it because of ill health. Buried Cities, Forgotten Gods is based upon his surviving manuscripts and personal papers.

About the Author

R. Mark Musell teaches graduate courses in public budgeting and finance at the City College of New York, where he is also Director of Experiential Education for the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service. He has taught government budgeting at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University and the Metropolitan College of New York. Professor Musell is the author of studies on government management, public employee compensation, government performance, and federal budgeting. He spent 25 years at the Congressional Budget Office studying the federal budget and providing Members of Congress and their staff with budgetary information and analysis.

It's a good companion book

This was a nice companion book to others I read for a budget class I took a few semesters ago. It was well written, and had some valuable information, but is only strong on its own if you're reading this out of self-interest, and not a class requirement.

PREFACE

This casebook is intended to be used as a companion to the textbook Introduction to Materials Management. However, its usefulness is not limited to this particular text. The cases are designed as examples of the problems that production and inventory management professionals face throughout their working lives.

Students of these cases are typically undergraduates in an introductory course, but the cases also could be used in an introductory course in the master's program, especially with supplemental questions.

This casebook is written to take the student beyond the problems included in Introduction to Materials Management. Most chapters have cases, and some cases bridge more than one chapter. Also, the cases vary in level of difficulty, with the more challenging cases requiring the student to think about the management issues involved in their decisions on the job. In all cases, the student has to think beyond the pure "formula application" problem typically found in many textbooks. Generally, the cases will force students to apply multiple concepts and to consider the solution in the context of the situation as opposed to merely finding an answer.

Each of us brings to this Introduction to Materials Management Casebook extensive experience in manufacturing and many years of full-time teaching. We welcome your feedback on the content in this text.

About the Author
Jelbert has spent the last five years researching the psychology of happiness. His first book,�The Happiness Animal�became a best seller and is recognized as the first practical exercise guide to happiness. In April 2016, Jelbert released a new narrative of happiness,�25 Days. His alternative careers guide,�Jobs Verse�will be published�in June 2016, and he is currently working on a series of five illustrated children's books about five happiness animals. (publisher and release date TBC).Jelbert was born in Cornwall, the far South Western edge of the United Kingdom, and grew up on a fourth generation family farm two miles outside of Penzance. Yes, the Penzance that made the Pirates famous. Jelbert's childhood was spent walking the cows in for milking after school, sorting through potatoes on the harvester, and driving the tractor while Jelbert's parents and grandparents cut cauliflower. By age eighteen, Jelbert had developed an aptitude for languages, thanks in part to the many conversations with the girls next door during the family's holiday trips to Brittany.Jelbert left the farm to study modern languages at Exeter University. After graduating, Reuters offered Jelbert a job translating French and German market information into English. Over the next ten years Jelbert worked in London, Geneva, and New York and took a year-long assignment to India in 2005 before relocating to Sydney in 2006. Jelbert became an Australian citizen in July 2010. After a year living in Denver, Colorado, Jelbert now lives in New York. �He has appeared in two interviews with the BBC in the UK, and participates in the annual 'Happiness and its Causes' world happiness conference in Sydney, Australia. A new approach to turning a life around

I received a review copy from the author and I was blown away. This really is simple things to do and refocus on to make your life more pleasant. There can always be things in your life that you can approach differently, see the good in, and the Happiness Animal is a way to start looking at them.
The author went through some very troubling things, hit bottom, and turned his life around and is now showing others how to do the same. A great investment in your life, the book is an indepth look at an entire life's direction --one to happiness and contentment without frustration and resentment.

The Happiness Animal is a life changing experience. Author Will Jelbert delivers an insightful and intelligent look at what happiness is and how to achieve it. The book delves into philosophy, science, psychology and introspection while providing excellent guidance on how to achieve happiness in your life.

Jelbert’s engaging anecdotes allow the reader to relate to each situation and learn the happiness components demonstrated in them. Reading this book is like talking with a dear friend and receiving the guidance and care you need. Learning that happiness is obtainable and that it is something you can have now is inspiring. Jelbert explains that many people spend their lives thinking they will be happier if they have more time, money, et cetera, but the truth is you can achieve sustained happiness now. The exercises provided in the book are mind-opening and truly helpful. They will help strength your happiness animal and enrich your life. I am so happy to have discovered this book and to have the tools now to make myself truly happy. I am grateful to Will Jelbert for sharing this brilliant guide with the world. I highly recommend it!

The Happiness Animal is such an interesting book which helps us understand what really makes one happy through short stories which are so real and believable. Will writes in such a simple way which helped me visualize everything he said. I read the book in one go and I will be reading it again and again so that i can start exercising my happiness animal properly
