Studying on a doctoral level...

I love the text book but was very disappointed in the cards. There are no muscle actions or attachments listed, which is something very important in my field of study. These do not help me a whole lot. I recommend the Netters cards instead. They have many more little facts and bits of knowlege that are crucial for learning gross anatomy.

Perfect with Atlas

I also have the atlas and recommend that if you get one, you have to get the other for the full experience. The images used in the flash cards are the same as in the atlas, but without the labels. This is a great way to quiz yourself on the anatomy and learn more. No other atlas and flash card set I have used has been so beneficial. I highly recommend this for anyone who is going into medicine or needing an atlas for anatomy!

This flashcards are definitely helpful in recognizing the muscles, however there is no more information on the card other than the name of the muscle. I was hoping the flashcards would state innervations or actions of a mucle.

What she did possess, however, was a remarkable physical constitution (she needed little sleep and was never ill), a phenomenal capacity for hard work, and a resolute ideological certainty alloyed with political adaptability and a populist sensibility. As one of the central founders of New Conservatism, Thatcher fought to shatter the post-World War II political consensus, the mainstream agreement that the central state must regulate national economic and social life in order to ensure full employment and the citizen's welfare from cradle to grave. Thatcher came of age when the postwar consensus was at its strongest. By the time she walked onto the world stage as leader of Britain's Conservative Party in 1975, however, the ideals of social citizenship forged in the tumult of World War II had begun to break down under the pressure of economic crisis. The resulting political confusion gave Thatcher the chance she needed. As prime minister of Britain from 1979 to 1990, she initiated the move of vast areas of the economy from public or state control to private ownership. More generally, Thatcherism both fed and fed upon a growing skepticism about state activism and governmental power--although, paradoxically, under Thatcher's guidance the power of Britain's central state grew, in some areas enormously.

We live in a global age where big concepts like "globalization" often tempt us to forget the personal side of the past. The titles in The World in a Life series aim to revive these meaningful lives. Besides writing, Cambria loves a caramel latte, staying up late, sleeping in, and watching movies. She considers math human torture and has an irrational fear of chickens (yes, chickens). You can often find her running on the treadmill (she'd rather be eating a donut), painting her toenails (because she bites her fingernails), or walking her chorkie (the real boss of the house).�

An awesome Christmas story with your favorite #Hashtag characters!

#Holiday is a perfect extra ending to the #Hashtag Series. I wasn't ready to say goodbye to these characters after #Heart so I was ecstatic to see we would get a holiday novella for them.

#Holiday takes place over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and is the first time the "Family" is spending the holiday together. We get to see both Romeo and Braeden's points of view in this book and I didn't think it was possible, but I may have fallen in love with them just a bit more!

Romeo being Romeo does everything in his power to make the holiday special for Rimmel and to keep up with some of the traditions she had growing up. He's sweeter than sweet and you can see after everything that has happened with these two, the love he has for her keeps growing. I loved being inside his head when they got stuck and him thinking about her driving his car. No one trusts Rim to drive any of their vehicles and it's quite hilarious.

Braeden is totally in love with his baby girl Nova, and his love for Ivy continues to get stronger and stronger. Seeing him with his daughter is absolutely amazing, and how he treats Ivy is beautiful. He works hard to show her she is the most important person in his life and I may have swooned when he was trying to tell her.

I have come to love these characters as if they were real, and I loved that Cambria Hebert gave us a short story so we could get more of Braeden, Ivy, Romeo, Rimmel, Drew and Trent, because well... these characters are just awesome. This book definitely needs to be read if you're a fan of the #Hashtag series. It's a very quick read that had me laughing and falling in love with the guys all over again, oh and the recipes at the end of the book... definitely going to be making some of those this season!

Amazing Short for Hashtag Fans

If you are a hashtag fan, this is a must read especially in the holiday season. Romeo and Braeden are our narrators for this fun story of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with the hashtag family. It's a beautiful mix of light hearted funny moments, love filled memories in the making as well as a few road bumps for the family. It's everything we love about the main series but shortened down to a 1-2 read and wrapped up in a Santa hat. Don't miss this one!

Great holiday read to get you in the spirit

What a great addition to the #Series! It was great to spend the holiday with the characters and I loved seeing how their first holiday all together played out. It was good to see them get to enjoy each other and spend some time with them outside of all the drama that has followed them. And although it is a shorter read it is well worth it. And the bonus recipes are definitely worth checking out!

Great for Radiology CEUs

I'm a diagnostic imaging technician and used this book for continuing education to renew my license. Several radiology CEU websites have credits for doing the test and charge a big markup on their sites for this book. So get the book here if you need it. I got 25 (A) units for completing the test (which you can buy on those CEU websites).

Do not buy the kindle edition

For some reason that is not evident to me they have chosen to provide many of the circuit diagrams, charts and tables in the size of postage stamps in the Kindle edition. Reading this with kindle for PC as I do is futile. Attempts at zooming in to figure out what a component is, or behold the component value, just brings up a grainy pixelated mush.

Because the pictures are such an integral part of a book like this I give it a one star. The text however is excellent! With proper picture sizing I would have given it four or five stars.

If I were the author I would be furious with whomever decided on the ridiculous picture sizes and unzoomability in the editing process. Probably some feng shui obsessed teenybopper with cute fluffy bunny rabbits on the bed covers decided that schematics and graphs look untidy and should be kept small.

My humble suggestion for a solution to this is to make available to the customers an additional appendix with all the diagrams and schematics in a properly intelligibly readable size. I am willing to sign a waiver that large scale messy pictures with lots and lots of confusing squiggly lines with wicked 90 degree bends snaking their way between strange outlandish looking symbols will not damage my brain or induce some OCD triggered hyperventilation fit if that is what it takes. By putting the big images in an appendix the feng shui of the main text is not compromised, and the teenybopper with a passion for tidyness can go back to dreaming about pretty pretty pastel colored objects while listening to pop tunes with pitch-corrected vocals or whatever crap such a useless person is listening to.

As mentioned, this review covers the Kindle edition. The pictures may be OK in the paper version - I do not know. I also want to reiterate that the text is really good, the author has delivered a brilliant product.

Complete discussion of analog audio processing

Solid-state analog amplification has been around a long time. In recent years, the most important changes have been in fine-tuning componentry and circuit design to minimize noise and distortion. This book appears to give the state of the art for 2010, and it offers a cookbook-style approach for those who would like to build them, or just gain more insight on how things work.

The author defined his content, structured it well, and wrote about each topic at approximately the same level. This consistency is very helpful in treating the subject.

In my comments below, I point out some areas that are not covered. I do this to describe the book - NOT to criticize it. When a topic is missing, it is because it is outside of the intended scope of the book.

CONTENT

This book provides full coverage of high-quality, low-noise, and low-distortion analog audio preamplifiers and mixers, from circuits to amplify very low signals (mikes, phono cartridges), to input selection, volume and tone controls, balance and panning, metering, compression, and more. For each subject, he describes the circuit at a high level, with some discussion of key aspects of the design, and provides alternatives with their advantages and disadvantages.

Each circuit is a module that can be combined with others to create complete systems, for example, a preamp for a high-quality stereo system or a mixing board. To help you put it together, he has a short chapter on combining modules for a complete preamp, and some discussion and mixing board architecture.

At the end he includes a chapter on a variety of power supplies of the quality that is required for the audio circuits. Rather than give a complete treatment of power supplies, he gives several examples that illustrate the range that might be required.

Digital audio processing is NOT covered, except that he offers circuits for converting between analog to digital and vice versa, and for selecting inputs under digital control. Power amplification is not covered here: he has a separate book on that subject.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This is a cookbook with many practical circuits, complete with semiconductor numbers and values for all components, such that a person experienced in building electronics circuits could take the diagram, buy the parts, and build it.

It is not a beginners' book. He does not discuss how to build circuits, provide parts lists, circuit boards design, provide suppliers of parts, etc. There are many project-oriented books that offer this level of detail. Instead, we get many more design choices and the flexibility to build as we see fit.

It is also not an engineering text to teach you to design such circuits; he has done that for us.

For me, this practical treatment is perfect. I am confident I could build anything here from my past experience, and I don't need to know the operational details.

For those who would prefer the availability of circuit boards, unbuilt but complete kits, or built and tested versions, search the Web for "The Signal Transfer Company", which has some of these circuits available in kit or built forms. The link is also at the end of the book.

BOTTOM LINE

In a world where the electronics hobby has been snowed by ever-increasting complexity as the state of the art advances, this book is a breath of fresh air that makes sense of it all, and makes it possible for a non-pro to build precision equipment. For those seeking a cookbook of circuits they can combine to build what they need, it is exceptionally useful. It is everything I could want in a book of this subject, and better than any other treatment I have seen, so I can only give it five stars.

Analog design in the Audio frequency range

I am very impressed with this book because of the guidance it gives for the design of low noise, low distortion analog circuitry. Once the concepts in Self's book are mastered, the audio frequency range engineer can design circuits that rival the performance of vacuum tube circuits which have been the "gold standard" devices in the past.

The book is directed to relatively low signal level audio frequencies, but many of the principles can be extended to circuits for somewhat higher frequencies if the designer has the correct electronics engineering skills. All of the functions that an analog engineer would want to perform on a signal are covered. Once the signal has been modified in the desired manner, it can then be amplified to increase power. It is much easier the manipulate analog signals at low amplitude and power levels.

Audio circuits are the primary focus of this book, but instrumentation engineers, and control engineers will also find this book to be very helpful as well as anyone performing designs in these frequency ranges.

One of the other reviewers gives an excellent outline of the contents of the book so I won't try to repeat that information.

To fully understand and apply the information on this book, the designer should have experience in analog design using op-amps as well as semiconductor transistors of various types. Also, an analytical background in electronic circuitry would be very helpful to understanding and applying the principles in this book. The "hobbyist" would need some experience in analog design. A bachelor level electronic engineer would find it to be at the right level.

Anyone doing this type of design who is struggling with improving the noise and distortion performance of their circuits will find this to be an extremely helpful book.

About the Author
Udo published his best-seller Fats That Heal Fats That Kill in 1993, which became recognized as the bible on fats. To set new standards for food oils and other health-supporting consumer products, Udo partnered with Flora Manufacturing and Distributing Ltd. in 1994 to create the Udo's Choice® health product line which includes EFA-rich oil blends and other blends of supplements (see udoschoice.com.

In 2005, Udo was inducted into the Canadian Health Food's Association Hall of Fame for his tireless efforts educating the public about the difference between good oils and bad oils and for pioneering higher production standards of unrefined flax and other polyunsaturated fat-rich oils.

Other titles include Choosing the Right Fats (2001)and Omega-3 Cuisine (2008), co-authored with vegan chef Alan Roettinge. Udo resides in Vancouver, B.C., and is currently working on his latest books, including two on fats and oils, due out in 2017.

Invaluable and One to Keep for the Bookshelf

With severe deficiencies in nearly all essential vitamins, amino-acids, minerals, and fatty-acids, Dr. Eramsus' Fats That Kill, Fats That Heal is a densely scientific, comprehensive, and invaluable piece of information on dieting. As per the title, the main focus throughout the book is about the vital need to incorporate fats and particularly the essential polyunsaturated ALA and LA omega fatty acids lacking in our diets. Both marine and plant omega-3s constitutes vitamin F, which many properly don't know or hear much of.

Through Erasmus' well exacuted details of the biological and functional processes of the omega-3s and the many ways the body utilizes it, including the activation of prostaglandins-2-the master regulator of fatty acid metabolism-our best effort is to try to incorporate them into the diet daily. Taking a naturopathic approach, Dr. Erasmus sees the use of fresh seeds and their oil derivatives as healers of the many ailments now griping the modern American. Since this book was written and published in the 80's, it is still relevant today and I believe deficiencies are far worse well into the 21st century.

What I enjoyed most from reading is that Erusmus' persuasion could be felt through his passion of this subject and is genuinely believable. He provides us with the real natural prescription to the many diseases and degenerative conditions, which is through natural dieting. True healers of modern illnesses and diseases is not pharmaceutical drug dependency, but is, through time, making the effort to consume organic whole foods.

The Book that Reveals Udo's Discovery - The Wonder Supplement

Dr. Udo's Fats that Heal, Fats that Kill is absolutely the best book on health and nutrition that I ever ever read and followed.
Unlike many dozens of other tomes in this enormous field, it is filled with truth, and Udo's prescriptions actually work.While not an easy read,this book is well worth the effort expended to understand it, even at its most basic and practicable level.
The Omega 3-6-9 oil formula [flax seed versus fish oil based], whether Udo's brand, Flora brand, or other comparable brands, is the all around wonder supplement for health. Some results, such as healthy and moist skin [the body's largest organ], can be seen immediately, and others, such as overall vitality and energy, are noticeable in days or weeks.
I have even used it on a 12 year old dog with liver, thyroid, and other health issues with great success. She is dancing around with restored energy and appetite within a few weeks, after having had minimal success with expensive veterinary care for several months.
Omega oil, in my case either Flora or Udo's, is undoubtedly the single most effective supplement Iof 7] that I take, with no close second!
I highly recommend Udo's book, his originally discovered formula, and I highly commend Udo Erasmus to you.

The Title Says It All!

Well this book was so good and informative, that I ended ordering two of them by mistake, and the return time was so short that I missed returning one of the books by just a couple of days. Anyway, what you'll find in this book could save your life, literally. There are 456 pages in this book. After reading only a bit of it, I now value the brands of oils I find in health food stores with the name UDO. Udo Erasmus breaks down a very complicating subject to a level that the average person can understand.

Natalie Diaz was born and raised on the Fort Mojave Indian Reservation in Needles, California. After playing professional basketball for four years in Europe and Asia, Diaz returned to the states to complete her MFA at Old Dominion University. About the Author
Natalie Diaz: Natalie Diaz was born and raised on the Fort Mojave Indian Reservation in Needles, California. Having played professional basketball for four years in western Europe and Asia, Diaz returned to the states to complete her MFA at Old Dominion University in 2007. She has received the Nimrod/Hardman Pablo Neruda Prize and her work has appeared in numerous journals and magazines, including Prairie Schooner, Nimrod International, and North American Review. She lives in Surprise, Arizona.

A Wonderful Book of Poetry

The opening poem of the collection sets up what is to follow. Diaz discusses the drug addiction her brother faces and the effect it has had upon her parents and their family dynamic. Mojave and Spanish words and phrases are scattered throughout the lines, harking to the culture within her home. The poem is shocking: “My brother shattered and quartered them before his basement festivals--/waved their shaking hearts in his fists,/while flea-ridden dogs ran up and down the steps, licking their asses,/turning tricks.” The poems that follow look closer at the canvas on which Diaz has chosen to paint.
The collection is split into three parts. The first takes the reader through familial, cultural, and historical contexts in which Diaz has plausibly found herself.
“The Red Blues” speaks of the oppression the Mojave people, and the greater Native American population, has experienced in the past. It brings the Mojave’s struggles into focus, and leaves little room for apology. Instead, the poem seems to search for something more.
“Reservation Mary” explains what life could have been like for Diaz, if her basketball career had been interrupted by the birth of a child. It may even divulge the life of someone Diaz knows.
“The Last Mojave Indian Barbie” takes a satirical lens to the cultural pressures and expectations of Native American woman. It is also one of the most peculiar poems in the first section because of it looks and reads like prose. The semantic play and musical moments hint at a poetic desire, but never quite bring the reader to a place to accept the work as poetry. This piece shows that Diaz is not afraid to push the boundaries of what makes a poem.
The second part of the collection takes the context in which it has been placed and focuses on the family, and the relational destruction Diaz’s brother creates. All eleven poems delve into the trauma of addiction and the havoc it can raise. The poems often focus on her mother or father’s reaction to her brother. This is the case in the opening poem: “She asked, What are you on? Who wants to kill you?/The sky wasn’t black or blue but the green of dying night./The devil does. Look at him, over there./He pointed to the corner house./The sky wasn’t black or blue but the dying green of night.” Lines such as these, result in deeply impactful poems that cling to the skin.
Diaz continues to push the definition of poetry with the exploration of poetic prose, free verse, and listings in “My Brother Named Gethsemane”, “As a Consequence of My Brother Stealing All the Lightbulbs”, and “Formication”. She also begins some of her poems with dedications, quotations, and definitions. In these ways, Diaz makes her anthology friendlier to those not used to reading poetry. The familiar forms and conventions of literature create a more welcoming landscape for frightened readers.
Finally, Diaz brings the reader to a deeply personal space. The poems of the third section seem to feed off Diaz’s own experience outside of the reservation. We are sent out from a now familiar world into the unknown. What we encounter is confusing, harsh, and uncertain at times.
“When the Beloved asks, ‘What Would You Do If You Woke Up and I Was a Shark?” brings forth strange images of early mornings, death and morphing into marine life all in the context of a common experience.
Diaz drags you into an unfamiliar world and builds context around you, allowing the reader to experience a portion of the complicated and diverse story of the Native American people. The honesty she gives makes these poems deeply impactful and terribly difficult to forget, even though you may want to. Their jaws will never let go.

Profound and strange, but also clear and narrative in places. Lots of heartbreak, but moving and contemplative things to say about it. I taught the book in a graduate seminar and they all loved it and thanked me for introducing them to this poet.
